After Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939 France and Britain declared war on Germany because they were allies with Poland. After being back stabbed by Germany the Soviet Union went against the Axis powers and joined the Allie powers to ensure that they will gain the land they lost from Germany. In December 1941 the U.S joined the war because the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Since 1942 the three leaders, of Britain, Soviet Union, and U.S created and controlled the Allied policy. The U.S and Britain were very close, the U.S aided Britain with supplies and weapons before Pearl Harbor, and they also had secret meetings with one another over the plans they would use to take down Germany and end the war in Europe. Other Allied powers were; Canada, China, India, the Netherlands and, Norway. They all created the United Nations, and when the war ended in 1945 they also created the Modern UN.

V-J DAY its official name is Victory day and it was the day that the war officially ended and Japan surrendered to the U.S on the U.S.S Missouri that was in Tokyo Bay. The Article is split up into three different sections that describe how the U.S reacted to the end of the war. It also talks about how the U.S has celebrated and it shows how grateful they were that the war ended the way it did. “Japan’s devastating surprise aerial attack on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harboron Oahu, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941, capped a decade of deteriorating relations between Japan and the United States and led to an immediate U.S. declaration of war the following day.”
BOOKS OF THE TIMES; Why the Allied Victory Was Not a Sure Thing Richard Bernstien explains to the reader how Richard Overy book “The Allies are Victorous” is about his experience in the war and how what he saw is incorporated into the book. He uses Quotes from Richard Overy book showing how it was more about facts of the war instead of his view and opinion. “"On the face of things," he writes, "’no rational man in early 1942 would have guessed at the eventual outcome of the war.’" The Germans had needed only a few short weeks to smash Poland and France, and they seemed to be making short work of the far larger Russia. Japan had bombed Pearl Harbor, occupied half of China and taken all of the British, French and American possessions in Southeast Asia. In this sense, Mr. Overy says, ‘Allied victory represented a remarkable reversal of fortune.’"
MAJOR PACIFIC BATTLES The gives us all Battles that occurred while the U.S was at war with Japan. There are four different battles; battle of Iwo, Okinawa, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Leyte, and Saipan. These battles were significance because these battles turned the tide of the war. All of these battles occurred in General MacAurther’s plan to island hop to islands to get closer to Japan. This entire island allowed us to isolate and stop Japan from expanding to the south more. “In October 1944, General Douglas MacArthur and his Sixth Army returned to the Philippines by way of the island of Leyte. More than two and a half years had passed since MacArthur had reluctantly abandoned his troops in the Philippines, retreating to Australia, where
D-DAY Was on June 6 1944, and it was when Allie troops stepped foot on the beaches of Normandy. These beaches were filled with thousands of troops from the Allied powers. The victory of this battle would be what allowed Britain and France to go and liberate France from Hitler’s control. This battle ended the war in Europe... “Codenamed Operation Overlord, the battle began on June 6, 1944, also known as D-Day, when some 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region.”
BATTLE OF MIDWAY This battle occurred six months after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The U.S beat Japan in one of the most decisive naval battles in the history of WWII. To beat Japan the U.S used code breaking devices that allowed them to be one step ahead of the Japanese navy, and it also allowed them to target where their fleets were. This battle allowed the Allied powers to switch from defensive tactics into offensive tactics. “Admiral Yamamoto Isoroku, Japanese fleet commander, chose to invade a target relatively close to Pearl Harbor to draw out the American fleet, calculating that when the United States began its counterattack, the Japanese would be prepared to crush them. Instead, an American intelligence breakthrough–the solving of the Japanese fleet codes–enabled Pacific Fleet commander Admiral Chester W. Nimitz to understand the exact Japanese plans.”
GERMANY SURRENDERS The Learning Network used key points thy helped to end the war in Europe. It talks specifically on how when Hitler chose to turn on the Soviet Union and Japan attacking the U.S was bad moves. This is because the fight Hitler went through with the Soviet
Union weakened his army and made him vulnerable, and since Japan strike Pearl Harbor they added another foe that was large enough to beat them. “The tide of the war changed in 1941, first when Hitler broke a non-aggression pact with the Soviet Union and ordered an invasion, and later when Germany’s Axis ally, Japan, drew the United States into the war with the attack on Pearl Harbor.”

LIBERATION OF PARIS General staff of Britain, and France did not expect to liberate Paris when they started the battle. They only wanted to bypass Paris and be able to trap THE German army in the Capitol city but it turned out that there plan “operation overlord” would change the tide of the battle and finally give the Allied powers an upper hand in the war. “It would appear that the liberation of Paris was not even on the mind of those who planned ‘Operation Overlord’. No one at SHAEF General Staff seems to have planned ahead even when ‘Operation Cobra’ was ended. The general plan seems to have been to by-pass Paris both north and south and leave encircled the remaining Germans still in the greater Paris area.”
BOMBING OF HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI The U.S sent a b-29 bomber to the Hiroshima on august 6th 1944. The bomber dropped the atomic bomb that would kill 80,000 people on impact and it destroyed 90%of the city. Three days later the U.S bombed Nagasaki killing 40,000 people. More people died due to exposure to radiation. The emperor called for surrender because of the devastation the city went through. “In 1940, the U.S. government began funding its own atomic weapons development program, which came under the joint responsibility of the Office of Scientific Research and Development and the War Department after the U.S. entry into World War II.”
BATTLE OF BRITIAN during the summer of 1940 Britain fought hard to save their capitol city from being over taken by the Germans. In the skies German and British planes clashed and fought each other just to gain the territory of Britain. This victory saved Britain from being occupied by the Germans. This victory proved that the British air force is strong enough alone to beat Germany even after their air bases were attacked. “On the other hand, the Germans had major problems: they had no navy left after the costly conquest of Norway, their army was unprepared for any form of amphibious operations, and the Luftwaffe had suffered heavy losses in the west.”
OPERATION HUSKY- BATTLE FOR SICILY The Allied powers needed the island of Sicily because they would use it as a control point to attack the weakest army under the Axis powers “Italy”. Sicily was under control of German rule so the Allied powers sent a large fleet and a lot of troops to attack the island. This victory is what knocked Italy out of the war. It allowed the Allied powers to gain a strategic point over the Axis, and helped them to defeat and take down Italy. “The Allies now focused their attention on the Italian main land in order to knock out the weaker, Italian forces from under the Axis banner”

SHERMAN TANK
The M-4 also known as the Sherman tank was used throughout WWII. The video describes how the tank was made, and the unique weapons it had that allowed the Allied powers to win the war. This tank was manufactured three time more for the Allied powers then the Axis powers. This allowed the ground troops to move farther into the enemy territory, and it provided protection for the troops who would trail behind the tank.

General Dwight D. Eisenhower's D-Day Speech Just like Hitler Eisenhower was a motivational speaker for the U.S army. He states facts and also opinion to bring the hopes up of the soldiers and encourages them that the Battle for Normandy will be the greatest and most important battle to winning the war. He tells them that it is not going to be easy, and that the enemies will fight hard but to win the war for good they must fight harder. This inspiration is what could have led to the wining of the Battle of Normandy.

ATOMIC BOMB SUMMARY AND INJURIES Both the Atomic bombs had devastating effects on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They destroyed the cities nearly completely and killed between 40,000 – 80,000 people not counting the people who died due to radiation. The bombs also caused fires to break out through radiation, and secondary fires occurred because of building collapses. The bombings led to the ending of the war because Japan needed to rebuild its capitol city and to do that you need a strong economy and with an ongoing war there economy was not getting stronger.

This is the Battle of Midway. it shows were the fleets went and the direction they moved in order to position themselves to get a clean view of the enemy. Yo can see that the arrows don't travel t far and they stay in a small proximity mainly because they were ordered to stay in one area and defend it.
This map shows Hitlers military plan to attack Britain during The Battle of Britain. to win this battle he used his large air force and would bomb the British who were trapped in the capitol city. It shows where he mainly attacked and also where all the airfields are. The amount of airfields that Germany controls is amazing especially since they end up losing the battle.
This is the tactic used by the British and Americans during the battle for Sicily. This outcome would effect the war so greatly because it would allow the Allied powers to weaken Italy and also put them in a good spot to attack Hitler. by the map you notice that the U.S attacks one part of the beach and Britain attacks the other. Britain was used more as a distraction to allow the U.S to push through which they did.
These are the plains set by the U.S to conquer and take down Japan to finish the war. There are three different generals for the U.S and they all continue with a plan created by General Macarther. His plan was to strategically hop to certain island around Japan, and surrounding them so they have no where to go. This plan allowed the U.S to conquer islands that had important air bases to the Japanese.
The map above shows the strategic plans that the Allied powers came up with on D- day. The plan was to punch through the defenses and to get as deep as possible into the country. They attacked from different parts of the beach. the smaller groups were put into spots with the least amount of protection while the larger groups went through the larger area with protection. The larger groups at the beach gained more attention when breaking through allowing the smaller groups to get through.
